Technical SEO audit: crawlability, metadata and fixes
A technical SEO audit checks whether useful pages can be crawled and understood by search engines. It identifies observable obstacles without guaranteeing indexing or a top position.
Start with page access
An important page should load successfully without authentication and expose useful content in readable HTML. Review HTTP status codes, redirects, robots.txt, robots meta tags and the X-Robots-Tag header. Crawl blocking and noindex serve different purposes: a crawler prevented from loading a page cannot read the indexing directive inside it.
Choose a consistent reference URL
A canonical identifies the preferred version of duplicate content. Keep it consistent with redirects, internal links and the sitemap. For genuinely translated French and English pages, each version generally keeps its own canonical and reciprocal hreflang links to the alternative. Pointing every translation to one canonical can obscure the intended language structure.
Describe each page clearly
The title, H1 and opening paragraph should express the same topic in natural language. A description summarizes the value of the page; it does not replace useful content. Avoid giving the homepage, pricing page and technical guide the same title. Link to guides with meaningful anchor text from existing pages so discovery does not rely exclusively on the sitemap.
Worked example: a missing product page
A public product page returns 200 but includes noindex. First confirm that it should appear in search, then remove only the conflicting directive and verify the deployed HTML. Update its sitemap entry when the content has actually changed. Finally inspect the URL in the search engine's webmaster tool: a technical correction does not prove immediate indexing. This is an educational example rather than a customer result.
Turn findings into priorities
SaaSCheckup records accessible SEO signals within its executed scope, including metadata, structure, links and observed directives. Review the affected page, evidence and coverage beside each finding. Prioritize blocks affecting important commercial pages, then duplication and internal linking. Real rankings and search queries require webmaster data such as Google Search Console; they cannot be inferred from a technical score.
